Mass and Distribution of Ashes
March 5th , 7:30 pm
Stations of the Cross,
7 :30 pm on Fridays of Lent, beginning Friday, March 7.
Lent begins on Wednesday,
March 5th On that day,
Bishop Brian will celebrate Mass and impose ashes at 7:30 pm in our Church .
For Catholic and Protestant Christians, Easter is the first
Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox.
Lent creates a pre Easter time and space for us to let go of
earthly comforts that keep us earthbound, to fill our lives
with acts of charity that keep us heaven bound, and to
diminish the solemnity of our pre Easter Liturgies creating
contrast between this subdued season and the glorious
Liturgy of the Resurrection .
If one counts
the days between Ash Wednesday and Easter,
subtracting the Sundays which are always a celebration of
the Resurrection , the total would be the forty days of L ent
that recall and imitate the forty days Christ spent in the
desert fasting before beginning his ministry
